It is with great joy that I share these news: Urban Farmers, the book (photographed by Valery Rizzo, published by Gestalten, written by yours truly) will be out in French next month! The book was originally published in English and has also been translated to German. The French edition is available for pre-order now.

Divided in case studies, profiles, features and “activities at home” , the book, which also includes four guest essays, offers a global overview of urban agriculture across the world. From a scholar that quit academia to fight to save Mexico City’s chinampas to a passionate activist tackling food insecurity by teaching urban farming skills in Nairobi; Urban Farmers is an invitation to roll up the sleeves, start digging and ultimately grow not only vegetables but strong communities.

It is with great joy that I share these news: Urban Farmers, the book in which photographer and co-editor Valery Rizzo, the Gestalten team and yours truly have been working on for months will be out in Europe soon (April 29th)!

Writing this book has been a journey and I feel truly grateful for everything that I have learnt along the process. With special thanks to those busy farmers, activists, food justice advocates and all the others who made time for our interviews, the book couldn’t have happened without them. It does take a village!

September 2020

New work for Whetstone magazine, a favourite indie publication. With a focus on championing food to expand human empathy and challenging mainstream trends, they publish unique food stories from around the world.

For the current issue, I wrote a long form feature on Victoria Torres, a fifth generation winemaker from La Palma, Canary Islands, who makes excellent wines despite all the challenges, including climate change.

The work appears in the Issue 6, out now. Please support independent journalism and buy or subscribe here.

Ribeira Sacra | Iberia Excelente magazine

November 2019

New story (writing + photography) for Iberia Excelente (business class in-flight magazine), a road trip across one of Spain’s most exciting wine regions, Ribeira Sacra. The story focuses on a brilliant host, Francisco Almuíña, who overcame his traumatic vision loss after a workplace accident and now shows visitors the land of his childhood through the senses, sharing all his knowledge on the nature, traditions, vineyards and local foods of the area. The story also focuses on Pedro Rodríguez, of Guímaro winery, a third-generation winemaker and his terroir-driven wines.

Nieves Barragán interview | Gourmets

November 2019

New writing work for Gourmets, an interview with renowned Spanish chef Nieves Barragán. She is a star chef in the London food scene, having made the tapas culture approachable for Londoners from Barrafina first, and now from her own restaurant, Sabor. The interview also includes a couple of my photos. The opening portrait and food shots are by photographer Chris Terry.
